Key Roles

Principal, Physics 30, Biology 30 and Science 24

Greetings to students, parents, staff and community members. Deen and I are excited and looking forward to upcoming 2018-19 school year. Originally born on Prince Edward Island, I have been an educator for over twenty years -- sixteen of those in Chinook’s Edge School Division. Starting in 2002 at Cremona School as the math/science teacher, I became Vice-Principal there in 2012 and served in that capacity until 2016 when I transitioned into the same role at Innisfail High School. Prior to coming to Chinook’s Edge, I had previous teaching experience in Fort McMurray, PEI, and South Korea.

I have taught a wide range of subjects over those years ranging from Grade 7 Science to English as a Second Language to Physics 30 -- though most of my experience has come with Senior High Math and Science. My wife (Corina -- also a CESD administrator) and I live on an acreage east of Sundre with our sons, a couple of hunting dogs, and a few cats that I try not to notice or name. As an avid outdoorsman my free time finds me hunting waterfowl, upland birds and big game, fishing the streams or foraging in the forests.

As a teacher, my focus has always been on not only guiding students to do the best they can academically but also on ensuring that they keep as many options open for themselves as they leave high school. Similarly, as an administrator I place a high value on academic achievement for all students. I also want to ensure that doors remain open for everyone for as long as possible and, as such, strenuously encourage their participation in the arts, athletics, volunteer clubs and after-school activities.

The strong relationships between staff and students that are possible at smaller schools such as Penhold Crossing help to ensure that those goals can be met as we prepare our children for life after high school. Deen and I look forward to learning much more about the students, staff, parents and community in the upcoming months and years. Should you have any questions, do not hesitate to contact myself or Deen and we will endeavour to answer those that we can.
