PCSS Honour Band

Penhold Crossing Band students recently participated in the CESD Honor Band. The CESD division honor band is arranged by all the band directors in Chinook's Edge Division every two years. There are two groups, one junior and one senior, which consist of band students respectively from grades 7-9 and 10-12. It is a full day of sectionals and group rehearsals with a guest conductor, finishing with an evening performance. This year's guest conductor was Kathie Van Lare. Kathie Van Lare, born and raised in Calgary, has been teaching music in the Calgary area for 35 years. Now retired from full-time teaching, Kathie continues to direct the Foothills Music Society Concert Band, the Westwinds Music Society Gold Jazz South Big Band, and the Calgary Women’s Jazz Orchestra. These are just a few of Kathie's accomplishments and involvements. Our students were very fortunate to spend the day with her.
